Bayside Kids’ and Teens’ Workshops & Activities

Field games, farm time, arts and crafts, and nature hikes are arranged according to different age groups and are all included in the Bayside registration fee. There is also a ropes course and archery, offered by Lutherdale for an additional fee.

Our age groups for youth are:

Pollywogs (ages 2 – 3)
Minnows (ages 4 – 7)
Sunnies (ages 8 – 12)
Teens (ages 13 - 19)

IMG 2968 Early Morning Fishing with Bayside Fisher-Dads, 6am – 8am
The mornings start early with fishing on the dock for all eager, young early risers. Bayside Fisher-Dads encourage the kids to catch and kiss those fish before releasing them back into the lake. (Kissing is optional.)

Breakfast, 8am – 9am

Morning Activities, 9am – noon

Pollywogs (ages 2 – 3)
A few of our über-enthusiastic (and experienced) teen campers provide childcare for the Bayside Pollywogs.

Sunnies (ages 8 – 12) and Minnows (ages 4 – 7)
Sunnies and Minnows are each assigned a counselor. In their shared space, they play games and do activities in the arts & crafts room, in the sports field, and on the Lutherdale farm. The counselors organize the week’s activities around the interests of the campers. During this time, adults typically attend Morning Celebration and workshops; however, adults are also welcome to participate in the Sunnies and Minnows activities with their children. Options include field games, farm time, arts and crafts, and nature hikes.

Teens
Bayside offers the “Reflections Workshop,” which is specially-tailored to teens (see description below). Teens are invited to participate in Morning Celebration and adult workshops. They are welcome to fish, sail, play field games, or go on nature hikes. Teens at Bayside are given what teens like most – independence and the freedom to make choices, which sometimes means just bonding with their teen friends, playing games, and hanging out in the hammocks. Some teens provide childcare for The Pollywogs. Or they can sleep 'til noon, skip everything, and take it easy…

Reflections Workshop for Teens
M-F, 10:15am-11:15am
The goal of this workshop is to remind ourselves who we are and what is important to us. During this workshop, we will reflect on things that have special meaning to us, such as places, music, relationships, life events, and spirituality. We will think about the people we were, the people we are now, and the people we might become. As part of this workshop, we will have in-class exercises and discussions. There is one homework assignment – to find a song that is meaningful to you that you can play to the group during a workshop session. There will also be some optional assignments for those who would be interested in writing outside of class.

Lunch, 12pm – 1pm

Afternoon Activities, 1pm – 5pm
Afternoons are a bit more unscheduled than mornings. The waterfront is open for swimming, and there is canoeing, kayaking and sailing. This is your time to design, and can include family time, “me-time,” resting, reading, meditation, or whatever moves you. There will be adult workshops in the afternoons and Lutherdale counselors available to entertain Bayside kids.

Pollywogs
In the afternoons, The Pollywogs typically return to their parents or guardians for quality time on the waterfront, napping, or time to just be together as a family.

Sunnies and Minnows
Afternoons are usually more unstructured for the Sunnies and Minnows. Counselors are available to entertain Sunnies and Minnows while parents or guardians are in afternoon workshops. Under adult supervision, Sunnies and Minnows can also enjoy waterfront activities, fishing, exploring the farm, and quality family time.

Teens
Teens have a flexible afternoon schedule. They can swim, sail, kayak, canoe, lounge on the beach, go on nature hikes, fish – or just hang out and relax.

Dinner, 5:30pm – 6:30pm

InterGen and Vespers! 7pm and onwards
